My Best Friend’s Girl Movie Review

•May 28, 2009 • Leave a Comment

My Best FMy Best Friend's Girlriend’s Girl- This is definitely a comedy for the guys. The main character, Dustin, finds the girl of his dreams – Alexis. He is crazy about her and after five weeks together Alexis wants to take a permanent break. Dustin is heartbroken, however, he is not going to let her go. Instead, he wants to prove her that he is THE guy. To accomplish his plans, Dustin’s friend Tank is there for him. Tank, on the other hand, is the specialist in this. He helps the guys to get their girlfriends back by making the worst dates ever and helping the girls to realize how nice their ex really is. The problem is that Alexis is not just like every other girl. She knows that Tank is messing with her, that his rediculous actions are fake and that is where the story begins. Tank feels bad about falling in love with his friend’s girlfriend, but he can’t do anything about it.The movie is rated “R”, has a lot of adult language and some nudity. If you liked “American Pie”, you probably would like this one. After reading some other reviews, seems that some girls get offended by the movie, and it is indeed, would be a better movie for the guys. Here is the trailer that goes over a story and shows a few good scenes:My Best Friend’s Girl

Little Boots and La Roux don’t speak for synth pop

For fans of electronic music, this should be a triumphant moment. Eight years on from electroclash, that psychic rift in the club-music continuum, its aesthetic and ideology finally seem to have crossed over. Little Boots is jamming on her Tenori-on with Bill Turnbull on BBC Breakfast, while La Roux hovers, stubbornly, in the upper reaches of the charts. DIY electro is coming home. Rule Brit-ronica!

Glastonbury 2009: What do you think of this year’s lineup?

We weren’t expecting to be surprised by this year’s Glastonbury lineup, given that all three of the headline acts had been leaked earlier this year. But the surpise lies in the nights each headliner is playing: perhaps they wanted to shake things up a bit, which would explain why Neil Young is opening the festival on Friday (26), preceeded by the Specials, and Blur are closing the weekend on Sunday (28) after a slot from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. We had assumed it would be the other way round, though Bruce Springsteen’s saturday night slot seems just about right.

There is a proliference of the elder statesmen of rock and pop at this year’s Glastonbury: as well as all the above, you can expect slots from Status Quo, Tom Jones and Bjorn Again. Dedicated music fans may be more excited by the new bands, and there are plenty of them: on guardian.co.uk/music desk we’re looking forward to performances from Tinariwen, the Horrors, the Big Pink and La Roux. So go on then, tell us what you make of this year’s lineup.

Just because Green Day has to be rebellious, they are releasing their new album, 21st Century Breakdown, this Friday, 5/15, instead of today. But since next Tuesday will be too late, I have included it in this weeks New Tunes edition. There hasn’t been much of a leak, aside from the single “Know Your Enemy” and a 30 second clip of “Another State of Mind.” From listening to “Know Your Enemy” I can deduce that 21st Century Breakdown will be standard Green Day music, and will probably sound a lot like American Idiot (which is a great album, by the way). Green Day has staying power; a magic that I can’t quite pinpoint. My guess is that this new album will be pretty interesting, especially if they keep with the theme-qualities they used for American Idiot.

Kate Voegele comes out with her new album A Fine Mess today. Her single “99 Times” sounds like a less commercialized Kelly Clarkson–and I like Kelly! Kate sounds a little more rough around the edges. Also, the music doesn’t sound like it was created in a studio, she sounds like she is playing the instruments. I would also compare her to Norah Jones/Sara Bareilles. A Fine Mess sounds like a pretty light hearted album, easy listening. Check it out.

Utada (Hikaru Utada) comes out with her third album This Is The One. Her album cover is very deceiving! Utada has a lovely voice and her music would be considered R&B. Her songs have some pretty awesome beats laid on the tracks, which always makes for a good grooving album. This is definitely a grooving album. I would like to hear some of these songs on the radio, there is something a bit different about them; fresh. Decide for yourself.

REVIEW: Hilary Kole – Haunted Heart

•May 15, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The first thing that comes to mind when listening to Hilary Kole’s solo debut, Haunted Heart, now out on the Justin Time label, is amazement that it’s a debut album. Her crystal-clear voice and perfect timing, combined with some solid backing from a group that includes guitarist (and producer) John Pizzarelli, provide a polished and professional listening experience.

Although this is Kole’s first solo album, she’s far from unknown. She has a solid background of singing alongside some of the best, and has been hailed hcfor her work in off-Broadway appearances. She’s also shown up as a featured performer at various special events, has numerous special appearances on both regional and national TV, and I think she might be walking dogs and directing traffic in Times Square too. (Just kidding…I think.)

She’s been compared to Anita O’Day and Blossom Dearie, and even includes one of the latter’s songs, “You For Me,” on this album. But she also reminds me of one of my favorites, Stacey Kent, with her ability to add a playful touch to her straight-ahead style. A good example is “It’s Love,” an old but seldom heard standard given a lively treatment by Kole.

The baker’s dozen tracks on the album include several similarly old songs that you won’t hear every day, and that’s a nice plus. One of those — probably my favorite here — is Rogers and Hart’s “There’s a Small Hotel,” which is just a delight as performed by Kole. I also enjoyed “What’ll I Do,” an Irving Berlin classic that’s been neglected by most modern singers, but is revived by Kole in a winning performance.

There are a few surprising choices too, and Kole shows plenty of versatility in her interpretations of various types of songs. Tom Waits’ “Old Boyfriends” takes us in a slightly different direction but is a good listen, and I especially enjoyed “The Snake,” a deadly fun piece written by Oscar Brown Jr.

hccdAn outstanding debut album for Hilary Kole; highly recommended for just about anybody who enjoys good music performed by talented musicians.

Hot off the press this week, Jennifer Hudson finds Prince Charming, Kanye West has a Twitter tantrum, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz take their love to the streets and Lala loses her temper.

The latest social networking craze to catch fire is Twitter, the place where regular folks can stay updated on their interests, friends and yes, even their favorite celebrities, but more than a few controversies have erupted thanks to fake celeb Twitter accounts and Kanye West decided to take his beef with his fake Twitter account public on his blog this week:

I DON’T HAVE A FUCKING TWITTER… WHY WOULD I USE TWITTER??? I ONLY BLOG 5 PERCENT OF WHAT I’M UP TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. I’M ACTUALLY SLOW DELIVERING CONTENT BECAUSE I’M TOO BUSY ACTUALLY BUSY BEING CREATIVE MOST OF THE TIME AND IF I’M NOT AND I’M JUST LAYING ON A BEACH I WOULDN’T TELL THE WORLD. EVERYTHING THAT TWITTER OFFERS I NEED LESS OF. THE PEOPLE AT TWITTER KNOW I DON’T HAVE A FUCKING TWITTER SO FOR THEM TO ALLOW SOMEONE TO POSE AS ME AND ACCUMULATE OVER A MILLION NAMES IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND DECEITFUL TO THERE FAITHFUL USERS. REPEAT… THE HEADS OF TWITTER KNEW I DIDN’T HAVE A TWITTER AND THEY HAVE TO KNOW WHICH ACCOUNTS HAVE HIGH ACTIVITY ON THEM. IT’S A FUCKING FARCE AND IT MAKES ME QUESTION WHAT OTHER SO CALLED CELEBRITY TWITTERS ARE ACTUALLY REAL OR FAKE. HEY TWITTER, TAKE THE SO CALLED KANYE WEST TWITTER DOWN NOW …. WHY? … BECAUSE MY CAPS LOCK KEY IS LOUD!!!!!!!!! Read the rest of this entry »
